WELCOME!
In Russian the word for a cathedral church is SOBOR, which means a church that gathers all the people of the city for important services and events. Since 2007 the Lenten retreats at Holy Virgin Cathedral have become a gathering place for Orthodox faithful and inquirers from different jurisdictions and traditions, not only in the Bay Area, but also from many cities on the West Coast. Thus it is with great joy that we invite you to gather on Sunday, March 21 at our majestic Holy Virgin Cathedral in San Francisco to take part in our fourth annual Lenten Retreat, to examine, to learn, to pray, to meet and to be inspired.
The program begins with the Divine Liturgy (in English) at 7:30 a.m. Following breakfast, our keynote speaker, the Archpriest Patrick Reardon, pastor of All Saints Antiochian Orthodox Church in Chicago, well-known author and senior editor of TOUCHSTONE magazine will present two talks: Holy Scripture and the Life of Prayer and The Evangelization of America. After an open forum for questions and answers, guided tours of the Cathedral will be offered, providing historic and liturgical details about the many spiritual treasures within, including the shrine of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco. English Vespers start at 5:30 p.m., followed by informal fellowship in the cathedral hall.
Please come (bring someone along) and share this special day with us. We hope that the retreat will not only prove to be a spiritually enriching experience for you, but that you will leave with new friends and the strength to continue on the Lenten journey to Pascha.
